SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft SideWinder Game Controller software, you may receive either of the following error messages:
Setup can't install the GPSECURE.SYS file and cannot complete installation. It may be the disk or an undefined compatibility issue. Remove the setup disk, restart your computer, and rerun Setup.
Setup can't install the ACTIVA~1.EXE file and cannot complete installation.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions are true:
  • Norton AntiVirus is running on your computer.
  • An undefined compatibility issue exists.
  • The SideWnder Game Controller software CD-ROM is damaged.

To resolve this issue, restart your computer, quit Norton AntiVirus, and then run the Setup program again. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Remove the installation CD from the CD drive.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Right-click the Norton AntiVirus icon on the taskbar, and then click Disable Auto-Protect.
  4. Run the Microsoft SideWinder Game Controller Software Setup program again.

  1. Click Start, Point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type tm.exe.
  3. In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.
  4. In the list of found files, right-click the Tm.exe file (if it exists) located in the Windows\System folder, and then click Rename.
  5. Type tm.old, and then press ENTER.
  6. Close the Find: Files Named Tm.exe window.
