PRJ98: Can't Show/Hide Subtasks or Other Problems If Filter Cancelled in View (193874)

In Microsoft Project 98, when you select a view, you may see one or more of
the following symptoms.
Show/Hide Subtasks May Not Work
In a view that displays an outline structure, such as a Usage view, the
Show Subtasks or Hide Subtasks tools may not work: including the outline
symbols (+ and -) displayed in the Name column, the menu commands and the
toolbar buttons.
A Resource with ID 0 May Be Displayed
In a resource view, a resource with ID 0 may be displayed.
The Project Summary Task May Be Displayed
In a task view that is not already displaying a project-level summary task,
a project-level summary task may be displayed. In addition this task may be
aligned incorrectly.
CAUSE
These problems may occur when you select a view that applies an interactive
filter and you cancel that filter.
For example, you create a custom Gantt view that applies the Task Range
filter. When you are prompted to enter values in the filter dialog box, you
click Cancel.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use the appropriate method for your
situation:
If you're in a task view, point to Filtered For on the Project menu and
click All Tasks.
-or-
If you're in a resource view, point to Filtered For on the Project menu and
click All Resources.
To prevent this behavior from occurring, use either of the following
methods:
Method 1: Do Not Cancel the Filter
When you apply the customized view, enter filter criteria in the
interactive filter dialog box and click OK.
Method 2: Change the View Definition Filter
If you want to change the view to not prompt you to filter tasks, change
the View Definition filter by following these steps:
- On the View menu, click More Views.
- Click to select the customized view.
- Click Edit.
- In the Filter list, click All Tasks if you are editing a task view, or
click All Resources if you are editing a resource view.
- Click OK.
- Click Apply.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed at the beginning of this article.
