PRJ98: Assignment Custom Fields Show Incorrect Values (193298)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q193298

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, in either the Resource Usage or Task Usage view, values in some of the following custom fields may contain incorrect values:

  • Cost1-Cost10
  • Text1-Text30
  • Number1-Number20
In addition, assignment names in the Task Usage or Resource Usage views may be blank.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when you save a project to a SQL database after sorting a resource pool under the following conditions:

  • The sort of the resource pool was based on one of the following assignment fields in either the Task Usage view or Resource Usage view:

    Cost1-Cost10, Text1-Text30, or Number1-Number20.

  • The Sort option Permanently Renumber Tasks (in the Task Usage view) or Permanently Renumber Resources (in the Resource Usage view) was selected.

  • One or more projects that share resources from the pool was closed when you performed the sort.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, upgrade to Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

To work around this problem if you do not have SR-1, open all projects that share resources from the pool before sorting on a custom field in the resource pool.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

For additional information about obtaining and installing SR-1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
