PRJ98: Cannot Edit Summary Task Fixed Cost for Inserted Project (193160)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, in a consolidated project, you cannot edit the Fixed Cost field for an inserted project's summary task.

CAUSE

The Fixed Cost field for an inserted project's summary task is a non- editable field and is linked one-way: from the source project to the inserted project's summary task.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, change the inserted project's Fixed Cost directly in the inserted project's source file. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Open, and open the project that is source of the inserted project in the consolidated file.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options. Then, click the View tab.
  3. Click to select the Project Summary Task check box. Click OK.

    NOTE: The first row in the project is the Project Summary Task.
  4. On the View menu, point to Table, and then click Cost.
You can now change the Fixed Cost for this project. This change will be reflected in the inserted project summary task in the consolidated project.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
