FIX: Stored Procedure Creation Gets Garbled Entry in Syscomments (193043)

SYMPTOMS

The creation of certain stored procedures may cause garbled entries of the stored procedure text in the syscomments system table. The problem depends on the size and placement of the comments in the stored procedure, and it only happens when the packet size is set to 512. Also, the comment for the stored procedure must be located before the CREATE PROCEDURE statement for this problem to occur.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do either of the following:

  • Use sp_configure or the Server Configuration/Options dialog box in SQL Enterprise Manager to change the 'network packet size' option.

    -or-
  • Put the CREATE PROCEDURE statement before the comment.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 6.5. This problem has been corrected in Service Pack 5a for Microsoft SQL Server 6.5.For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
