FIX: Correlated Subquery for a Large Table Causes Error 403 (192991)

SYMPTOMS

A correlated subquery for a large table causes error 403:
Invalid operator for datatype.
This problem occurs if both of the following conditions are true:
  • There is not enough room in the cache to keep all the pages of a large table.

    -and-
  • Indexes do not exist on a join column.

WORKAROUND

You can avoid the problem by setting FORCEPLAN to ON. Also, you can use trace flag 342. However, these workarounds take more time to retrieve records.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 6.5. This problem has been corrected in Service Pack 5a for Microsoft SQL Server 6.5.For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
