Some Information Not Displayed in System Information Tool (192867)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the System Information tool, you may receive the following error message in the Software Environment and System Information sections:
Cannot Display Information
The Component which displays this information is not functioning properly, or is not present on this machine.
However, it is still possible to view the software environment information.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if either of the following conditions exists:
  • The Msisys.ocx file is missing or damaged.
  • The Riched20.dll file is missing or damaged.
  • You install Windows 98 into a new folder, and you do not install WordPad as an optional component.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following the steps. After each step, try to run the System Information tool.
  1. Extract the Msvcrt.dll file from your original Windows disks or CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder.

  2. Extract the Riched20.dll file from your original Windows disks or CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder, or install WordPad. To install WordPad, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    2. Click the Windows Setup tab, click Accessories (the word, not the check box), and then click Details.
    3. Click the WordPad check box to select it, and then click OK.
    4. Click OK.
  3. Extract the Msisys.ocx file from your original Windows installation media to the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO folder.
