The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Site Server 3.0
This article was previously published under Q192793 SYMPTOMS
After you install Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on an Alpha
computer where Windows NT 4.0 SP3 and SQL Server 6.5 SP4 are installed on
a single physical hard disk drive, the server may stop responding and
display a blue screen with a Stop 0x00000024 error message in Ntfs.sys or
a Stop 0x0000000A error in Ntoskrnl.exe.
CAUSE
This is a problem in Ntfs.sys that is exposed by sustained heavy disk I/O.
RESOLUTION
A hotfix is available from Windows NT support that fixes the problem in
Ntfs.sys, hotfix 135148. Please contact Windows NT Support to obtain this
hotfix.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, install one or more additional hard disk
drives on the server and place SQL Server and/or Site Server on a
different physical disk drive from Windows NT. This will balance the load
across the spindles and avoid the error by reducing the load on the
spindle containing the operating system.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0.
