  • You cannot create new folders or save files.
  • Your computer stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install Greetings Workshop into the root folder of your hard disk.

To resolve this issue, use the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to remove Greetings Workshop, and then install Greetings Workshop into a different folder on the hard disk. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of installed programs, click Greetings Workshop, and then click Add/Remove.

    <drive>:\<folder>

where <drive> is the letter of the hard disk on which you want to install Greetings Workshop, and <folder> is the folder in which you want to install Greetings Workshop. By default, Greetings Workshop is installed in the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\Greetings Workshop

NOTE: If the folder you type does not exist, the Setup program creates the folder for you.

MORE INFORMATION

The root folder of any hard disk on a Microsoft Windows 95/98-based computer can contain only 512 or fewer files or folders. This issue can also occur if you have less than 512 files and folders in the root folder because long file names use multiple slots in the File Allocation Table for the hard disk.

For more information about issues that can occur when the root folder contains too many files, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

120138 Errors Creating Files or Folders in the Root Directory

This issue can also occur if you have multiple programs installed in the root folder, and these programs use different versions of some common program files.
