SYMPTOMS
When you try to install Windows 95 or Windows 98 on your IBM ThinkPad 701c
computer, you may receive the following error message:
GRPCONV has performed an illegal Operation
Explorer caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module KERNEL32.DLL at
015F:BFF72825
Turning the computer off and back on may allow Setup to finish, but you
may continue to receive similar error messages.
CAUSE
The IBM ThinkPad 701c was designed for Microsoft Windows 3.1. This
computer requires a BIOS upgrade to be compatible with Plug and Play
before it can be upgraded to Windows 95. IBM does not recommend
installing Windows 98 on this computer.
RESOLUTION
Before you upgrade your IBM ThinkPad 701c to Windows 95, obtain and
install the BIOS upgrade from the following IBM Web site:

The Sys7013o.txt file contains instruction on performing the BIOS upgrade.
NOTE: You need a fully charged battery to perform this upgrade. If the
battery is not fully charged, you might damage the motherboard. IBM will
not cover this under their original warranty.
