DSS80: Speakers Hiss or Pop During Audio Playback (191861)

When you configure the Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 to be the
preferred playback device on your computer, you may hear hissing or
popping sounds during audio playback.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Sample Rate Conversion Quality is
set to Good.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, set the Sample Rate Conversion Quality to Best. To
do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Multimedia.
- On the Audio tab, under Playback, click Advanced Properties.
- Click the Performance tab.
- Move the Sample Rate Conversion Quality slider all the way to the
right (the Best setting).
- Click OK, and then click OK again.
- Close Control Panel.
MORE INFORMATION
The Sample Rate Conversion Quality is set to Good by default.
