When you run Internet Explorer 4.01 on a Windows 3.1-based or Windows NT
3.51-based computer with Microsoft Office version 4.x installed, you may
experience any of the following symptoms:
- When you try to open an Office 4.x document on a Web site, you may
receive an error message similar to:
- After you open an Office document, quit the Office program, and then
quit Internet Explorer, you may receive one of the following error
messages:
IEXPLORE Caused General Protection Fault in USER.EXE at <address>.
Error Divide by Zero
- When you use Internet Explorer to view a Web page with links to Office
4.x documents, open a document by clicking a link, modify the document,
and then try to save the changes, you may receive one of the following
error messages:
This file is read-only. <file location>.
File is being modified by another user. Open as read-only?
RESOLUTION
A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from
Microsoft, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied
only to computers experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this
problem immediately, contact Microsoft Technical Support to obtain the
fix. If you are not severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft
recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer service pack that
contains this fix.
