Err Msg: IIS 4.0's Current Configuration Not Suitable for Proxy Server (191140)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 on top of the Windows NT Option Pack (with Internet Information Server 4.0), the following error message may appear during Setup:
Setup has determined that Internet Information Server's current configuration is not suitable for Proxy Server. Please refer to the release notes.

CAUSE

The Setup program has not completely stopped the Internet Information Server (IIS) services necessary for the installation to continue.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following:

  1. Open a command prompt and type:

    Net stop iisadmin

    This completely unloads the Inetinfo.exe file and stops the IIS services.
  2. Start Proxy Server setup.




If the above method does not resove the behavior, then set all IIS services to "disabled", then reboot. Proxy will then install.
