SYMPTOMS

When you open the Mobile Devices folder, you may see a generic icon for the Handheld PC (H/PC) or Palm-size PC (P/PC).

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the desktop is not refreshing properly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method listed below:

Using Windows 95/98

  1. Right-click an empty space on the desktop.
  2. Click Refresh (Line-up Icons in Windows 95).

Using Windows 98 with Plus! 98

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
  2. On the Effects tab, click the Use Large Icons check box to select it, and then click Apply.
  3. Click to clear the Use Large Icons check box, and then click OK.

Using Windows 98 in MS-DOS Mode

  1. Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode. To do this, click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart In MS-DOS Mode, and then click OK.
  2. At the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line:
          cd\windows
          deltree shelli~1
          Y
          exit
