OL97: Cannot Send Attachments with Long File Names (190430)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 97, you may find attachments you send or receive do not display their entire long file name.

CAUSE

You are using the Microsoft Outlook Support for Lotus cc:Mail service, from the Microsoft Office 97 ValuPack and corresponding with someone who uses Lotus cc:Mail 8.x.

The following describes limitations of long file name attachments, when sending mail between Outlook using Outlook Support for Lotus cc:Mail service, and a Lotus cc:Mail 8.x email client:
  • When sending from Outlook to Outlook, long file names and their extensions are preserved.
  • When sending from Outlook, to a Lotus cc:Mail 8.x email client, long file names are truncated with a tilde (~) character but their extensions are preserved.
  • When sending from a cc:Mail 8.x email client to Outlook, long file names are cut off at the 8th character and their extensions are missing.
  • When sending cc:Mail 8.x to cc:Mail 8.x, long file names and their extensions are preserved.
