The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 98

This article was previously published under Q190071

SYMPTOMS

Using the HTML messaging format in Microsoft Outlook 98, you create and send messages with graphics inserted. When recipients view the messages, they report that graphics are not displayed. Additionally the placeholders are marked with a red X.

CAUSE

The graphics you inserted in the mail message referenced a hyperlink to a Web site location and the recipients were not connected to the Internet when they viewed the message.

RESOLUTION

In order to ensure that recipients can view graphics in an HTML message, when working offline, you must embed the graphics in the message.

MORE INFORMATION

To embed the graphics in the mail message, follow these steps:
  1. In the Web page form that you wish to include graphics, right-click picture and then click Copy.
  2. On the File menu, click New and then Mail Message.
  3. On the Format menu, ensure that Rich Text (HTML) is selected.
  4. Click in the message body and then on the Edit menu, click Paste. Repeat the above steps for each graphic you wish to include in the mail message.
  5. Send the message in the normal manner.
