PPT97: Recolored OLE Object Reverts to Original Colors (189953)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q189953 SYMPTOMS
When you recolor an OLE object in PowerPoint, and then use a copy
and paste operation to embed the object in another application, the
object reverts back to its original colors. The result is the same
whether you choose Object or Picture in the Paste Special dialog box
(click Paste Special on the Edit menu).
CAUSE
The Recolor command applies color changes to a representation of the
OLE object, not to the original object. When you copy the object, the
original properties are stored with the object.
WORKAROUND
To preserve the new colors when you paste the object, use either of the
following methods.
Method 1: Convert the OLE object to a Graphic- Select the object.
- On the Edit menu, click Cut.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
- In the As list, click Picture, and then Click OK.
The colors will be preserved when you paste the object into another
program.
Method 2: Convert the Recolored OLE Object to a PowerPoint Object- Select the embedded object.
- On the Drawing toolbar, point to Draw, and then click Ungroup.
- If you are asked to confirm whether or not you want to convert the
object, click Yes.
- On the Drawing toolbar, point to Draw, and then click Group.
MORE INFORMATION
This problem occurs only with recolored OLE objects. If you import a
picture (click Insert Picture on the Edit menu) and recolor it, the
new colors will be retained when you paste the picture.
