PRJ98: Task May Have Incorrect Predecessor or Successor (189898)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q189898 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you change a predecessor or successor in the
Task Form view, the change may not be saved. You may also see this behavior using the Task Details Form and the Task Name Form views. You may also see that the predecessor or successor change may not be updated in the Predecessor or Successor field in the Task Table.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when:
- You have a task that has predecessor and successor
relationships.
- You change a predecessor or successor for a task using the
Predecessor Name field or the Successor Name field in
the Task Form, Task Details Form or Task Name
Form view.
WORKAROUND
Use either of these workarounds if you have not installed SR-1.
Workaround 1
Change the Predecessor or Successor using the Predecessor ID or Successor ID column rather than the Predecessor Name or Successor Name column in the Task Form view.
Workaround 2
To change the predecessor using the task name of the predecessor, follow
these steps:
- Select the task where you want to change the predecessor.
- On the Project menu, click Task Information and then
click the Predecessors tab.
- Click the cell below the Task Name column heading to select
from the list the desired Predecessor task name and click
OK.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows Service
Release 1 (SR-1).
