FP98: File Hyperlinks Have Beginning Slash, Appear Broken (189875)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q189875

SYMPTOMS

Valid hyperlinks to files are shown as broken in Hyperlink Status view in FrontPage Explorer. In addition, you may see a slash (/) inserted at the beginning of a file hyperlink in either Hyperlink Status view or Hyperlinks view, similar to this:

/D:/myfolder/myfile.exe

This behavior appears if your Web is disk-based.

CAUSE

FrontPage Explorer does not remove the slash from the beginning of the hyperlink before it verifies the hyperlink in a disk-based Web. Therefore, the hyperlink appears broken even though the hyperlink is correct.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, import the page or the entire Web into a server- based Web.
