PRJ98: Incorrect Resource Work After Editing Task Work (189248)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q189248 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, work for a resource may be incorrect in a resource
view.
For example, in the Resource Usage view, total work displayed for a resource might not equal the total work for all of the resource's assignments.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you change the value of the task Work field in
any task view, such as the Gantt Chart or Task Usage views.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do not edit task Work values directly.
Instead, edit assignment Work using any of the following methods:
Method 1: Resource Usage View
In Resource Usage view, edit assignment Work on individual tasks.
Method 2: Task Usage View
In Task Usage view, edit assignment Work for individual resources.
NOTE: For methods 1 and 2, you can edit the values either in the table on the left side of the view, or in the timephased columns on the right side of the view. If you edit in the table, Microsoft Project 98 will calculate the timephased values based on the new assignment Work total you enter, on the task type, and on the work contour for the assignment.
Method 3: Gantt Chart View
In Gantt Chart view, work in a split screen so that you can edit assignment Work in the lower pane. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Window menu, click Split.
- Use the right mouse button to click (right-click) the lower pane,
and then click to select either Resources & Predecessors,
Resources & Successors, Resource Schedule, or
Resource Work from the Content menu.
- In the lower pane, edit assignment Work in the Work column
opposite each resource's name, and then click OK. You can edit
more than one assignment before clicking OK.
To force recalculation of the incorrect resource Work totals that are
currently displayed, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Resource Usage.
- For each resource whose total is incorrect, click the Work
column next to one of the resource's assigned tasks. Retype the value
that is currently displayed, and then press ENTER.
You only need to do this for one Work value for each resource that
has incorrect resource Work.
For example, if the current value for one of a resource's task assignments
is 16 hours, click the cell containing this value, type 16h, and then press
ENTER.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
