PRB: Running INFINST for the Windows 98 OPK Intl Languages (189148)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft OEM Preinstall Kit (OPK) 98
This article was previously published under Q189148 SYMPTOMS
If the you use the incorrect infinst.exe, you cannot apply third party .inf
files to the setup directory. Note that international languages use
different names for the actual executable that installs windows 98.
MORE INFORMATION
All International versions of the Windows 98 OPK have two versions of
Infinst.exe. One is the English binary, which will not work with the
International kits. This binary is located in the CD-ROM under the
\Tools\Infinst directory. The correct version is located in the CD-ROM
under the \Cdextra.xxx\Tools\Reskit\Infinst directory (XXX is the three
letter language). The Infinst.exe in \Cdextra.xxx\Tools\Reskit\Infinst is
localized to the specific language, and will reference the correctly named
setup binary for the specified language.
Infinst.exe is a program in the Windows 98 OPK and the Windows 98 Resource
Kit that allows you to integrate a third party .inf file and related driver
binaries into the Windows 98 product. Infinst.exe needs to locate the third
party .inf files, as well as the setup binary for the Windows 98 product.
The English Infinst.exe will always locate this setup binary with the name
Setup.exe. Many International releases of Windows 98 use names other than
Setup.exe for the setup binary (for example, Instalar.exe).
