You can have PowerPoint Viewer run several slide shows consecutively by putting the presentation names in a text file called a playlist.

NOTE: Only PowerPoint Viewer uses playlists. If you open a playlist in PowerPoint itself, PowerPoint creates a new presentation containing the text of the playlist.

Creating a Playlist

Use TeachText or SimpleText to create a text file that lists the location and name of each presentation to be shown. Separate each path by enclosing it within quotation marks. Each entry should be on a separate line.

For example, a playlist that plays the file Sample Presentation from the Microsoft PowerPoint folder on a hard disk called Macintosh HD, and the file Sample Presentation 2 from the Documents folder on a disk called Second HD would look like this:

"Macintosh HD:Microsoft PowerPoint:Sample Presentation"
"Second HD:Documents:Sample Presentation 2"

NOTE: You must surround the path with quotation marks, because the viewer reads spaces between words as the next presentation file to display.

If you are unsure of where the presentation resides on your computer, you can find its location by using Get Info.

Using Get Info to Find the Location.

  1. Locate the presentation that you want to add to your playlist.
  2. Click the presentation icon while in the Finder.
  3. Press COMMAND+I to open the Info dialog box.

    The location of the presentation is on the Where line.
Save the file with any file name you choose and type .LST at the end of the file name, for example:

My Playlist.LST.

Using a Playlist

You can use a playlist by running PowerPoint Viewer, opening the folder that contains the playlist, and selecting it. You can also use a drag-and-drop operation to run the playlist file. To do this, drop the playlist file on the PowerPoint Viewer icon.

NOTE: If you try to open the same playlist in PowerPoint, you get a new presentation with two slides. The title of the first slide is

"Macintosh HD:Microsoft PowerPoint:Sample Presentation"

and the title of the second slide is:

"Second HD:Documents:Sample Presentation 2"
