When you copy a font (.fon or .ttf) file from a compressed folder to
the Windows\Fonts folder, you receive the following error message:
<Filename> is an invalid font file.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because files located in compressed folders do not
pass file type information to Windows.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, copy the font file to an uncompressed folder,
and then copy the file from the uncompressed folder to the Windows\Fonts
folder.
For information about how to copy a file, click Start, click Help,
click the Index tab, type copying files,
and then click Display.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98,
