OLEXP: Err Msg: Messages Cannot Be Imported From the MAPI Client (188804)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to import messages from an Microsoft Exchange or Windows Messaging Personal Information Store (.pst) file into Microsoft Outlook Express on a Compaq Alpha-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client.
MAPI is not installed on this machine or an error occurred while initializing it.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Move the .pst file to an Intel-based computer configured with a Windows Messaging or Microsoft Exchange profile.

  2. Import the .pst file into Outlook Express on the Intel-based computer. The .pst file is converted to an .mbx file.

  3. Copy the .mbx file to the Compaq Alpha-based computer.
  4. On the Compaq Alpha-based computer, Quit Outlook Express.
  5. Click the Start button, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  6. In the Named box, type "folders.nch" (without quotation marks), and then click Find Now.
  7. Right-click the Folders.nch file, and on the shortcut menu, click Rename. For example, type "folders.xxx" (without quotation marks) to rename the file.
  8. Start Outlook Express.
