WD98: Uppercase E with Circumflex Doesn't Appear (188780)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q188780 SYMPTOMS
If you insert a circumflex over an uppercase E, the circumflex it will not
appear on the screen if paragraph marks are displayed. However, the
circumflex will appear in print preview and when printed.
If you hide paragraph marks, the uppercase E with a circumflex will appear
on screen.
CAUSE
The show-paragraph-marks mode appears to confuse the circumflex E
(Macintosh code page character 230, and Unicode 202) with the non-breaking-
space (Macintosh code page character 202).
WORKAROUND
You must hide paragraph marks to be able to view the character on the
screen. To do this, use either of the following methods:
- Click the Show/Hide button on the Standard toolbar.
-or-
- On the Tools menu, click Preferences. On the View Tab, under Nonprinting
characters, click to clear the Paragraph marks check box or click to
clear the All check box.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
