PPT98: Macintosh Desktop Colors Are Altered (188756)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q188756 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft PowerPoint, when you start a presentation that includes slides
containing shaded backgrounds or slides using many palette colors, the desktop
colors may change. This behavior is noticeable because the desktop takes on the
color of the slide background.
CAUSE
When you use 8-bit color video cards on the Macintosh, only 256 colors
can be displayed on the screen at a time. When you open the PowerPoint
presentation, the Color Lookup Table for the current slide
sets the 256 colors that can be displayed. The desktop must take its
colors from these 256 colors. When the next slide becomes active, the
Color Lookup Table for that slide sets the current 256 colors.
RESOLUTION
If your hardware supports it, you can change the Color Depth setting in the
Monitors control panel to Thousands or Millions. Increasing the Color Depth
setting will give you a color palette large enough that the PowerPoint colors
will not interfere with colors used for the desktop.
