This article was previously published under Q188581 SYMPTOMS
After you uninstall the Banyan VINES 16-bit network client software from
your Windows 98-based computer, you may notice that some of your programs
run slowly.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Setver.exe program is running automatically
when you start your computer. When you install the Banyan VINES 16-bit
network client software, a Setver.exe entry is added to the Config.sys
file, but this entry is not removed when you uninstall the network
software.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, disable the Setver.exe entry in the Config.sys
file. To do so, use the following steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type sysedit in
the Open box, and then click OK.
- On the Window menu, click Config.sys.
- Locate the line that loads Setver.exe. Type REM,
followed by a space at the beginning of the line.
For example, the line in your Config.sys file may be similar to
the following line:
Device=C:\Windows\Command\Setver.exe
- On the File menu, click Exit.
- Click Yes when you are prompted to save the Config.sys file.
- Restart the computer.
