The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 98
  • Microsoft Windows 95

This article was previously published under Q188292

SYMPTOMS

If you are running Setup from a CD-ROM drive connected to a parallel port, Setup cannot locate the CD-ROM drive after the first reboot and cannot copy files from the CD-ROM.

CAUSE

Devices connected to a parallel port are not initialized immediately after the first reboot during Setup. Parallel-port devices are not included in the install class for Windows Setup.

RESOLUTION

Allow Setup to continue without the CD-ROM drive. The CD-ROM drive becomes available again after Setup is finished. You can then install items that were not successfully installed during Setup.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
