SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows 98, you may receive the following error message on a blue screen when you restart your computer:
Invalid VxD dynamic link call from CSMAPPER(01)+000003B4 to device "O97C", service 1

CAUSE

This issue can occur if there is a conflict between the Csmapper.sys file and the Phoenix Card Manager program.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, press ENTER so Windows 98 Setup can continue.

MORE INFORMATION

The Phoenix Card Manager (PCM) program is included on some laptops with CardBus controllers that shipped with a version of Microsoft Windows 95 that did not support CardBus. PCM is removed during setup so this issue should not reoccur if you reinstall Windows 98.
