The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q188111 SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade a computer running Microsoft Windows 95 with user profiles
enabled to Windows 98, or you install Windows 98 using a scripted
installation that uses user profiles, each new user that logs on to Windows
98 for the first time may be prompted to personalize his or her settings.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the default user profile is not personalized
during Setup.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Restart the computer.
- When you are prompted to log in, click Cancel. This logs you in as
the default user.
- Personalize the Windows 98 default user profile settings you want to be
the same for all new users.
NOTE: Do not personalize any programs that retain user information
unless the user information is a service account that is common to all
computers.
