SUMMARY

This article lists options that you can use to configure rules in Microsoft Chat. By doing so, you can customize the way that Chat responds to events inside and outside of chat rooms.

You can configure rules with one or more of the following options:

Events

You can configure Microsoft Chat to respond to the following events:

  • A new room is created
  • A user becomes a host in a room
  • A user connects to your chat server
  • A user disconnects from your chat server
  • A user invites you to a room
  • A user is kicked from a room
  • A user joins a room
  • A user leaves a room
  • A user outside your room sends a whisper to you
  • A user in your room sends a whisper to you
  • A user sends a message to a room

Event Parameters (Variables)

Parameters take the place of information that can be different each time an event occurs.

  • Nickname You can type a nickname in the Nickname box, or use one of the following variables:

    %Anyone%
    %Me%
    %AnyoneButMe%

  • Room You can type a specific room in the Room box, or use one of the following:

    %AnyOfMyRooms%
    %MyActivatedRoom%
    %MyInactivatedRooms%

    NOTE: When multiple rooms are displayed the room at the top is the Activated room and the other rooms are considered Inactivated.

  • Network You can type a network name in the Network box, or your rule can apply to any network when you use the following:

    %Any%

  • Message You can type a specific message in the Message box, or your rule can apply to any message when you use the following:

    %Any%.

Actions

The action performed is dependant on the event that triggers the action. The following actions can be performed:

  • Activate or deactivate a rule set
  • Ban the event's user from the room
  • Connect to a server or network
  • Disconnect from the current chat server or network
  • Don't display the event in the history window
  • Display a message window
  • Execute a macro
  • Get the identity of the event's user
  • Get the lag time of the event's user
  • Get the local time of a user
  • Get the profile of the event's user
  • Get the version information of the event's user
  • Select the message associated with the event (text mode only)
  • Invite the event's user to a room
  • Join a room
  • Kick the event's user from the room
  • Leave the event's room
  • Make the event's user a host of the room
  • Make the computer beep
  • Play a sound on your computer
  • Replace a part of an incoming message
  • Send line of a file to a room
  • Send a message to a room
  • Send an action to a room
  • Send a sound to a room
  • Send a thought to a room
  • Send a whisper to a user in your room
  • Send a whisper to a user outside your room
  • Start ignoring the event's user
  • Whisper a line of a file to a user

Action Constants

Constants are replaced by specific information.

- %EventServer% - server name

- %EventMessage% - received message

- %EventRoom% - room name.

Action parameters specify what action to perform. The parameters listed below are available for the actions that need them.

  • Rule set name
  • Activate

  • Sound file name
  • Line number
