OFF97: Cannot Bookmark Topics with Office Assistant (187923)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Help and click the Options button or right-click the Help topic, the following commands are not available:

  • Bookmarks
  • Define Bookmarks

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you view the Help topic in the Office Assistant.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and define a bookmark for topics by using the Office Assistant, follow these steps:

  1. Note the topic heading.
  2. Right-click the Office Assistant and click Hide Assistant.
  3. Click Contents And Index on the Help menu and click the Search tab.
  4. Type the topic heading, and then double-click the selected text to go to that topic.
  5. Click Option or right-click in the topic window.
The bookmark commands are available.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Office 97 for Windows.

A defined bookmark allows you to return quickly to a specific Help topic. To define a bookmark, follow these steps while the Help topic is displayed:

  1. Click the Option Button, and then click Define Bookmarks.
  2. Type a new bookmark name or accept the default, and then click OK.
You can quickly return to a defined bookmark while you are viewing Help by following these steps:

  1. Click Option, and then click Bookmarks.
  2. Click the bookmark name, and then click OK.
