Err Msg: Please Insert the Demo Disk Containing The Preserve... (187833)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and click Quick Start on the Golf 1998 Lite startup screen, you may receive the following error message:
Please insert the demo disk containing The Preserve 9 course.
If you click OK, you receive the error message again. If you click Cancel, you return to the startup screen.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur for any of the following reasons:
  • You are using a modem connection to the Internet when you attempt to start Golf 1998 Lite.
  • The CD-ROM drive letter has changed since you installed Plus! 98.
  • The Plus! 98 CD-ROM is not inserted in the CD-ROM drive or CD-ROM changer slot from which you installed Plus! 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disconnect from the Internet, insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then start Golf 1998 Lite.

NOTE: If you have more than one CD-ROM drive or a CD-ROM changer, insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive or CD-ROM changer slot from which you installed Plus! 98.

If the issue continues to occur, remove and then reinstall Golf 1998 Lite. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Plus! 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Add/Remove, and then click Next.
  5. Click the Golf 1998 Lite check box to clear it, and then click Next.
  6. Click Next, and then click Finish.
  7. Click OK.
  8. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  9. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Plus! 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  10. Click Add/Remove, and then click Next.
  11. Click the Golf 1998 Lite check box to select it, and then click Next.
  12. Click Next, and then click Finish.
  13. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98, version 1.0.
