Cannot Change Display Settings Using ATI Mach 64 and ATI Rage II (187681)

SYMPTOMS

When you install an ATI Mach 64 display adapter as the primary display device and install an ATI Rage II display adapter as the secondary display device in your computer, the only screen resolution available may be 640 X 480 and the only color palette available may be 16 colors.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if there is a resource conflict with your ATI Mach 64 and ATI Rage II display adapters.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double- click System.
  2. On the Device Manager tab, double-click the Display Adapters branch to expand it, and then double-click ATI Mach 64.
  3. On the Resources tab, click the Use Automatic Settings check box to select it.
  4. Click OK, and then click OK.
  5. Restart your computer when you are prompted to do so.
