PRJ98: Clear Leveling Does Not Change Finish to Original Date (186070)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98 when you clear leveling or undo leveling you may experience the following symptoms:

  • The finish date for a task is not moved back to the original date.

  • The task bar is not drawn based on the original start and finish.

  • In the Task Usage or Resource Usage views, you see 0h in the timescaled data cells for the assignment Work row at the start of the task.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when all of the following conditions are true:

  • The task that was leveled has an Actual Start date.

  • The Actual Start date was entered after assigning one or more resources.

  • The Gantt Chart view or a view based on the Gantt Chart is the active view, or has been applied since leveling the project.

  • No actual work was entered for the task.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the Actual Start date from the task.
    1. Select the task.
    2. On the Tools menu, point to Tracking and click Update Tasks.
    3. In the Actual Start box, type NA. Click OK.
  2. Remove 0h work values in the timescale in the Task Usage view.
    1. On the View menu, click Task Usage.
    2. Click the 0h work value on the timescale for the resource assignment.
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete Cells.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
