IntelliPoint: Error When Scrolling in Compton's Encyclopedia (185899)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to scroll in Compton's 1996 Encyclopedia by using the Microsoft IntelliMouse wheel, you may receive an application error.

This symptom only occurs on computers that are running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Compton's 1996 Encyclopedia does not have built-in support for wheel scrolling. Additionally, the Universal Scrolling feature of the IntelliPoint software does not work in Compton's 1996 Encyclopedia.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, disable Universal Scrolling for Compton's 1996 Encyclopedia by adding the program to the Exceptions For Universal Scrolling list. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Mouse, and then click the Wheel tab.
  3. In the Universal Scrolling area, click Exceptions.
  4. Click Add, and then locate the executable file for Compton's 1996 Encyclopedia.
  5. Click this executable file, and then click Open.
  6. Click Close, and then click OK.
  7. Quit Control Panel.
