SYMPTOMS

When you synchronize a Handheld PC (H/PC) with an IBM ThinkPad that is running Microsoft Windows, you may receive the following error message:
Synchronization Manager has not received a response from the H/PC in the last 30 seconds. The H/PC may have run out of memory or there may be a communication problem. You may try to continue or stop synchronization. If the problem persists, stop synchronization, disconnect, and reset the H/PC as described in the User's Guide. Do you want to continue attempting to synchronize?

RESOLUTION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Use Registry Editor to add a DWORD value named Batch Count to the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Pegasus\Replication

  2. Configure the value for the Batch Count DWORD to 1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
