  • Microsoft Windows 98

This article was previously published under Q185045

SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer after you upgrade your Microsoft Windows 3.x-based computer to Windows 98, you may receive the following error message:
Mouse Power driver not loaded - Check the driver setting in SYSTEM.INI.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Mouse Power makes changes to your computer's system files or folders.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the references to Mouse Power from your system files. To do so, use the following steps:
  1. Use a text editor (such as Notepad) to edit the System.ini file, and edit the "mouse.drv=" line to read mouse.drv=mouse.drv.

NOTE: If you are using a Logitech mouse, substitute lmouse.drv for mouse.drv in the System.ini file.
  2. Save the System.ini file, and then restart your computer.
