XL98: Chart Is Opened More Slowly Than in Earlier Versions (184894)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q184894 SYMPTOMS
When you open a workbook that contains a chart, Microsoft Excel 98
Macintosh Edition may open the workbook more slowly than earlier versions
of Microsoft Excel open the same workbook. The performance may be 20
percent to 50 percent slower in Microsoft Excel 98 than in earlier
versions.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because a chart you create in Microsoft Excel 98 can
contain more axis labels, consequently, the chart may contain more
information and require more time to be opened.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 98
Macintosh Edition.
MORE INFORMATION
A chart you create in Microsoft Excel 98 can rotate label text by 45
degrees, which allows the chart to have more axis labels than a chart you
create in earlier versions of Microsoft Excel. X-axis label text is
automatically rotated by 45 degrees if Microsoft Excel determines that the
text cannot fit in the chart without being truncated.
When you open a workbook that contains a chart created in an earlier
version of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Excel 98 opens the workbook more
slowly because Excel draws more chart information to the screen. For
example, a column chart with four x-axis labels may contain up to ten x-
axis labels when you open the chart in Microsoft Excel 98.
