SUMMARY

If you encounter problems when you use the ODBC Setup PPC icon in Control Panel or when you use Microsoft Query, you may want to consider minimizing the number of files that are loaded for Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) or Microsoft Query functionality. This article contains steps that minimize the files that are required in the Extensions and Control Panels folders for full ODBC or Microsoft Query functionality.

To load only the minimum number of items that provide ODBC or Query functionality when you start the computer, follow these steps:
  1. On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels, and then click Extensions Manager.
  2. In the Selected Set list, click the item for Mac OS <version> Base, where <version> is the version of your operating system software.
  3. Click Duplicate Set.
  4. Type a name for your set in the Duplicate Set dialog box, and then click OK.
  5. Select the following additional items:

    • Control Panels

      • ODBC Setup PPC
    • Extensions

      • Microsoft 3.01 Base Lib
      • Microsoft 3.01 Flat Lib
      • Microsoft 3.01 Utilities Lib
      • Microsoft Component Library
      • Microsoft OLE Automation
      • Microsoft OLE Library
      • Microsoft RPC Runtime Library
      • Microsoft Structured Storage
      • ODBC 2.x Bridge PPC
      • ODBC Configuration Manager PPC
      • ODBC Cursor Library PPC
      • ODBC Driver Manager PPC
      • ODBC SQL Server ADSP Netlib PPC
      • ODBC SQL Server Driver PPC
      • ODBC SQL Server Setup PPC
      • ODBC SQL Server Server TCP Netlib PPC
      • ODBC Trace Library PPC
    • Click Restart.
