Several Threads Created in LRPC Running Stress Test in IIS (184754)

SYMPTOMS

Under stress, Internet Information Server (IIS) version 4.0 threads will wait on a LPC port for the WMSG_ADDRESS object and results in several hundred threads (400+) being created in the IIS process.

CAUSE

This situation happens because the active call count logic on the WMSG_ADDRESS object is not working correctly.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
