XL98: Help Windows Are Closed When You Close About Excel Dialog Box (184729)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if you click About Microsoft Excel on the Apple menu and then click OK in the dialog box, any open Help windows may be closed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

Example

To see an example of this problem, follow these steps:
  1. On the Help menu, click Contents And Index.

    The MS Excel Help window appears.
  2. On the Apple menu, click About Microsoft Excel.
  3. In the About Microsoft Excel dialog box, click OK. If you cannot see the OK button, press ESC to close the dialog box.
The About Microsoft Excel dialog box and the MS Excel Help window both disappear from the screen.

Note that this problem does not occur in Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition, or any of the programs that are included in Microsoft Office 97 for Windows. In these programs, when you click OK in the About dialog box, Help windows are not closed.
