If you try to open a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) file that
contains a virtual path of two or more folder levels in depth and you
have Microsoft Word 97 installed on your computer, you may receive the
following error message:
Winword caused an invalid page fault in module unknown.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the version of Distributed Component Object
Model (DCOM) that is installed by Internet Explorer version 4.0 or 4.01
is unable to correctly parse a virtual path that is two or more folder
levels in depth.
RESOLUTION
This issue is resolved by the following file:
Dcom95.exe 3/31/98 9:38pm 1,198,816
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem Internet Explorer versions
4.0 and 4.01 for Windows 95. An update to address this problem is now
available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only
to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely
impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend
implementing this update at this time. Contact Microsoft Technical Support
for additional information about the availability of this update.
