XL98: Chart Is Not Updated When Data Is Changed (184364)

SYMPTOMS

When you change cells that are linked to a chart, the chart may not be updated.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you do the following conditions:

  1. You create a chart by using Microsoft Graph 98.
  2. You copy data from a Microsoft Excel worksheet.
  3. In Microsoft Graph 98, you click Paste Link on the Edit menu to insert the Microsoft Excel data into the datasheet.
  4. In Microsoft Graph 98, you click "Quit & Return to <workbook>" on the File menu, where <workbook> is the name of the current workbook.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, create the chart in Microsoft Excel by using the following steps.

  1. Start Microsoft Excel and create a new workbook.
  2. Type the following:

    A1: 1 B1: 3
    A2: 2 B2: 4

  3. Select A1:B2.
  4. On the Standard Toolbar, click the Chart Wizard button.
  5. Click the chart type and subtype that you want. Click Next.
  6. Click the options you want in steps 2 through 4 of the Chart Wizard. Click Finish.
A chart that is linked to the data is visible in the worksheet.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel.
