SYMPTOMS
In Word 98 Macintosh Edition, when you insert a clip art image into a
document, you can not turn off the Float Over Text option. When you attempt
to turn off the option you will receive either of the following errors:
The server application, source file or item cannot be found. Make sure
the application is properly installed.
The specified data type is not available.
RESOLUTION
Inline pictures are positioned directly in the text at the insertion point.
Floating pictures are inserted in the drawing layer so you can position
them precisely on the page or in front of or behind text or other objects.
To successfully insert clip art without the errors, use either of the
following methods.
Method 1: Insert Clip Art Inline
To insert clip art inline (not floating), follow these steps:
- Start Microsoft Word 98 and place the insertion point in the location of
the document where you would like a clip art graphic.
- On the Insert menu, click Object.
- In the Object type list, select Microsoft Clip Gallery.
- Click to remove the check from the Float over Text check box.
- Click OK to accept settings and start the Gallery.
Your clip art image is inserted inline in the document.

on the Help menu (or on the Balloon Help menu if you are using a version of
the Macintosh operating system earlier than 8.0), click the Index button in
Word Help, type the following text
and then click Show Topics. Select the "Change a floating picture to an
inline picture" topic, and click Go To. If you are unable to find the
information you need, ask the Office Assistant.
Method 2: Change the Clip Art Position from Inline to Floating
To change the inline clip art to floating, follow these steps:
- Select the inline clip art.
- On the Format menu, click Picture.
- Select the Position tab and click once to select the Float Over Text
check box.
- Click OK to return to the document.
The clip art image will be changed from inline to floating, without error.
NOTE: If you are using the Picture toolbar follow these steps:
- Select the clip art.
- Click the Text Wrapping button in the Picture toolbar.
- Click Edit Wrap Points, and then click OK.
