PUB98: Parts of Graphic Missing When Pasted as Picture (183538)

SYMPTOMS

If you copy a collection of drawing objects to the clipboard, and then paste them on a page as a picture, some of the lines may appear to be missing or partially drawn. However, when you print the page or publish it as a Web page, the lines appear correctly.

If you change the zoom percentage, the missing lines reappear. They generally appear when the zoom percentage is 75% or higher (the exact percentage depends on the resolution settings of your display.)

CAUSE

Lines, boxes, circles, and so forth are self-contained Publisher metafile drawing objects, whether they are separate or grouped objects. They contain all the necessary information to be displayed correctly on your screen, including consistent measurement units so that all objects appear in the same relative size.

When you paste this type of object as a picture, Publisher converts it to a single metafile drawing object. This new metafile object has different measurement units. It also contains information about both the lines that make up the object and the areas between the lines. This results in the empty space behind the lines being displayed rather than the lines.

When you change the zoom percentage, Publisher interprets more of the measurement units, resulting in more of the lines being displayed.

Select one or more objects on your page.
On the Edit menu, click Cut.
On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
In the As list, click Picture.

To paste a group of Publisher objects as a picture in Microsoft Draw 98, follow these steps:

Select one or more objects on your page.
On the Edit menu, click Cut.
On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click New Drawing.
On the Edit menu, click Paste.
