OL98: Reply Ticking Does Not Work Using HTML or WordMail Format (183326)

SYMPTOMS

When you reply or forward a message with reply ticking enabled, the character you selected to prefix each line of text does not appear. Either a vertical line appears along the left side of the original message, or a vertical line appears along the left side of the Sender, Date, Recipient, and Subject information block.

CAUSE

The message uses formatting that does not support reply ticking.

RESOLUTION

If the message format is HTML, there is no workaround.

If the message format is WordMail, close the item and change the default mail format to either Microsoft Outlook Rich Text or Plain Text, and then reply or forward the message.

To change the mail format, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Mail Format tab.
  3. Click to select either Microsoft Outlook Rich Text or Plain Text from the Message Format list, and click OK.

Reply ticking allows you to specify a character (or characters) to appear at the beginning of each line of text in a message you reply to or forward.

To enable Reply Ticking, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Preferences tab, click E-mail Options.
  3. In the section labeled "On replies and forwards," click to select "Prefix each line of the original message" from the lists. You can specify either "When replying to a message" or "When forwarding a message," or both.
  4. Type the desired character in the "Prefix each line with" box. The default character is an angle bracket (>). You can accept the default, add to it, or change it.
  5. Click OK three times to close the Options.
NOTE: If you enable reply ticking, the spelling checker does not ignore the original message.
