Quick View Displays Bitmap Image as Unintelligible Characters (183072)

SYMPTOMS

When you right-click a Windows bitmap (BMP) file and then click Quick View, unintelligible characters may be displayed instead of the BMP image.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the BMP image was created using Kodak Imaging.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Open the BMP file using Microsoft Paint.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. In the Save As Type box, click 16 Color Bitmap (*.bmp, *.dib).
  4. In the File Name box, type a new name for the file. For example, if the file name is Image.bmp, type imagex.bmp.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Right-click the BMP file you saved in step 4, and then click Quick View.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
