XL97: Linked Picture of Cells Changes Size with Print Quality (183016)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q183016

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97, when you print or view a worksheet in print preview, and the worksheet contains a linked pasted picture, the output may be a different size from the size you expect.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

  • You copy cells and paste them as a picture that is linked to the copied cells.

    -and-
  • The printer you are using has a default resolution other than 300 dots per inch (dpi).

    -and-
  • You change the resolution of the printer to a setting other than the default print quality for that printer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, paste the cells as a picture that is not linked to the cells. The problem is likely to occur only on printers with default resolutions that are greater than 300 dpi or on printers with resolutions that are not based on 300 and 150 dpi.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If the default resolution of the printer is 600 dpi, and you change the resolution to 1200 dpi (if this setting is available for the printer), the printed picture may increase in size and be truncated. If you change the resolution to 300 dpi the printed size may be smaller.
