PPT98: Cannot Drag and Drop JPEG Clippings from Desktop (182839)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q182839

SYMPTOMS

When you create a picture clipping from an inserted Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) graphic in Microsoft PowerPoint, you are not able to use a drag and drop operation to move this clipping from the desktop into PowerPoint. If you double-click the clipping, the image appears and you can move it to other programs.

NOTE: This behavior does not occur with other graphic formats, OLE objects, and PowerPoint objects. You can use all of these object types successfully as picture clippings.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, move the picture clipping you created to the Scrapbook and then copy it into PowerPoint by following these steps:
  1. On the Apple menu, click Scrapbook.
  2. Using a drag and drop operation, move the picture clipping into the Scrapbook window. You will be able to see the image.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  4. Switch to PowerPoint.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
The image should now appear on your PowerPoint slide.
